Next Generation Clean Ingredient Natural Color Pigments

Clean Label is Mainstream, So What’s Next?

The trend towards clean label food and beverage products is now fully mainstream. According to Mintel, there has been a 1,470% increase in clean living mentions on social media since 2015. As the movement evolves, consumers are becoming more particular about what it means for products to be “clean”, whether that means no artificial ingredients, no allergens, or Certified Organic. “No-no lists” are mainstream and even being updated on a continual basis to cater to evolving consumer demands for pure and authentic natural ingredients.

For example, this year alone, 43% of food and drink products claimed to be free-from preservatives (Mintel 2019).

Sensient Food Colors is committed to supporting the clean-label efforts of manufacturers, so they can nimbly respond to consumers’ dietary choices. We’ve recently launched a next-generation of our advanced Microfine™ technology called Simplifine™ that equips developers with plating-grade natural pigments, completely free of preservatives, GMOs, and incidental ingredients commonly found on “no-no” lists. If you’re unfamiliar with Sensient’s Microfine™ technology, it is a portfolio of natural colors specifically created to perform in oil-based, topical, and dry mix applications. With its wide applicability and array of rainbow shades, Microfine™ is one of our natural color innovations in highest demand, as it remains the industry leader even after almost a decade of being on the market. However, with no-no lists becoming stricter and more prevalent, our customers needed an even cleaner solution, and our R&D team went to work on creating Simplifine™–the next generation in clean ingredient natural color pigments!
