Global Natural Color Market Estimate
The acquisition is one of many over the past few years and exemplifies Sensient’s ongoing Seed-to-Shelf commitment to provide a stable supply of cost-optimized natural color solutions for the food, beverage, and pet food industry. Endemix broadens Sensient’s carrot and beet portfolio even more so, further strengthening global food supply chain security on these key botanicals for food colors.
Expanded Vertical Integration Portfolio Enables Cost and Supply Improvements
Sensient’s ever-expanding global portfolio of vertically integrated natural colors includes a variety of sources, including:
REDS & PINKS
One of the most popular natural red and magenta sources for low pH formulations, this cost-effective and versatile botanical is a great example of how Sensient’s vertical integration opens the door to cost savings and shade variation for our customers.
Purple & Red
Stunning vibrant pink shades are possible with purple and red sweet potato. Like all anthocyanins, these solutions perform beautifully in low pH and high water applications.
Arguably the most “global” natural botanical, color from beets is used around the world for bright reds and pinks. Sensient’s agronomy and R&D programs are constantly working to add even more concentrated and stable beet options to our portfolio.
Another vertically integrated anthocyanin, red radish imparts true bold reds and pinks to applications from seasonings to drinks.
Though not a botanical source, cochineal is an important and highly stable part of the natural color toolkit for brands in all regions. Global supply chain security is a hallmark of Sensient’s investment in vertical integration for this source, ensuring reliable supply for our customers.
A bold orange source, Sensient offers annatto in both oil- and water-soluble applications. Since this color is so popular in applications from dairy to snacks, vertical integration helps to prevent price and supply volatility for manufacturers.
This botanical is perfect for orange and yellow shades in products where easily recognizable plant-based ingredients are important. Orange carrot is also naturally cloudy, a great fit for beverage applications where visual cloud is desired.
Safflower is a naturally water-soluble solution offering heat-, light-, and acid-stable bright yellow shades in a wide range of applications from beverages to baked goods to pet food.
Safflower is not approved for use in the United States.
This water- and heat-stable anthocyanin offers unique natural blue hues at pH levels above 4.0, stunning purples in more acidic environments, and green shades when blended with natural yellows.

Growing Suite of Technologies Fuels
Advances in Color Performance
The botanical portfolio isn’t the only asset growing through Sensient’s acquisitions—so are our color processing and development capabilities. Through the Endemix acquisition, we will have additional refinement and extraction capabilities that will support our growth plans and sustain our leadership positioning in the color market.
Color Process Engineering Technologies
Why Are These
Continual improvement in color process engineering leads to improved cost-in-use.
Better performing natural colors typically equate to lower usage level needs which in turn might have a much lower impact on total formulation cost.
The ever-growing portfolio of technologies and process improvement capabilities is a testament to consistent dedication to unleashing the full potential of nature’s true colors for our customers.
