The Journal of Food Science Features the Framework for Sensient’s Certasure™ Program
Signed into law by President Obama on January 4, 2011, the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was the most sweeping reform of food safety laws in over 70 years in the United States. Its primary goal is to ensure the U.S. food supply is safe by shifting the focus from responding to contamination to preventing it. This reform couldn’t have come at a better time in the food industry, as the need for safe products and clear communication to consumers has never been more important.
Especially with the rising demand for natural ingredients, quality and safety become extremely important topics. At Sensient, we approach them in a similar manner to how the FDA approached FSMA—pro-actively. In fact, our integrated food safety program, Certasure™, mimics FSMA’s risk-mitigative strategy, but for natural food colours specifically. Today, I am very pleased to announce the whitepaper which laid the framework for Sensient’s Certasure™ program is the feature article of The Journal of Food Science’s November 2017 issue.
Written by a committee of esteemed scientists led by Dr. James Simon of Rutgers University, “Establishing Standards on colours from Natural Sources” stresses the relevancy for natural colour standards and outlines stringent procedures that should be taken in order to ensure the quality and safety of botanical colours.
