Solutions to Address Titanium Dioxide Powder Challenges

For most food manufacturers, Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) powder is the go-to white pigment solution and is used widely across many packaged food products, including confections, soups, fillings, sauces, pet food and powdered soft drinks just to name a few. Because of its excellent heat, light, pH, and water-activity stability, TiO2 can be difficult to replace at a comparable cost-in-use.

However, regulatory bodies in Europe and elsewhere have started to question the safety of Titanium Dioxide to both consumers, and notably production workers. This is especially true for the powdered version of TiO2. In February 2020, the EU published the classification of titanium dioxide as a suspected carcinogen (category 2) by inhalation for powder forms.
