Tartrazine
A bright yellow, water-soluble synthetic dye with good heat and light stability. Other names: FD&C Yellow #5, E102, CI Food Yellow 4, CI #19140, CAS #1934-21-0.
Tinctorial Strength
A measure of the colouring power of a colourant.
Titanium Dioxide
A white pigment that is a reacted product of a mineral oxide, ilmenite, a type of iron ore. Titanium dioxide is manufactured into a crystal form for the food industry. Other names: TiO2, E171, Pigment White 6, CI #77891, CAS #13463-67-7.
Turmeric
A bright yellow extract of a rhizome, Curcuma longa L. The primary colouring component is curcumin and is extracted using solvents such as alcohol and acetone. Turmeric has excellent heat stability and it is often used as a replacement for FD&C Yellow #5. Other names: Curcumin, Turmeric Yellow, E100, Diferoyl Methane CI Natural Yellow 3, CI #75300, CAS #458-37-7.
